Alpine lunar magic 2, Mt. Rainier

Alpine lunar magic 2, Mt. Rainier
Originally uploaded by Douglas Remington - Ethereal Light™

So I was hiking past spray park in Mt. Rainier, with plans to camp out pretty high on the mountain (past timberline). The day was getting late and the light fading, when all of a sudden the most gorgeous pink sunset I had ever seen broke out! And to top it off a full moon started to appear. I was using a Nikon n8008s because of its lightness. In panic mode I quickly pulled my 400mm prime lens (ya I know I'm one of those weirdoes who climbs with a 400mm lens; one can never be to prepared!) and it slipped out of my hands and smashed the lcd (these were new back then) on my camera. My light meter, info, everything gone. But it would still shoot, so I guessed the exposure and shot 2 images and then the show was gone. The moon was so bright later, that I kept tramping into the night and slept up on a ridge without a tent (but had sleeping bag) listening to coyotes and elk through the night; wonderfully magical!

Warner wetlands from atop Hart Mountain, Oregon, at sunset. After I made this shot, I set up my tent, and called it a night. Well shortly after that, I was getting stung by something, I pulled my flashlight out, and it turned out I pitched tent right next to a fire-ants nest!

Rain, who cares, in Portland we just use good gear! :) Plus we fill our water bottles with craft brew, or Mead! ;) electrolytes, carbs, protein...

This is my "daily" commuter. Disc brakes, rack, for my ortlieb paniers, carbon fork, hand made German tires, has bosses if I would need to put cantelever brakes on, has cross brake levers in adition to the drop levers...

Still working on the tripod and slr camera mount ;)

Look rather silly but don't care cause I feel good!

A. G. Smith and I camped out in the hills near here. We got up at about 4 am and hiked down to Mono lake. It was really windy and very chilly! A.G was doing his best to shelter me from the wind, and helped load velivia film in my F5, for my fingers cold not even open the camera back! It was a good show and well worth any discomforts!

I thought this cloud looked kinda like a flying saucer!

I shot this while camped out fairly high up on Mt. Washington (central Oregon). Shot with a 400mm lens. Ya I know, what kind of climber takes a 400mm lense with them? I do! :) There was a fair amount of atmospheric haze which made for an intense sunset.

I was camped out on the shore of Lake, Owyhee in Eastern Oregon, when this storm rolled in. This was the greatest lightning storm I have ever seen. Now, I love storm, but I have to say, this one had me wondering if was going to survive from getting hit. There really was no place to take shelter.

This is not a composite image. My tent is lit up from a lantern, and is a direct non manipulated scan of a fujichrome velvia slide.
